Dental caries under an existing restoration made the prognosis for tooth #14 hopeless. Dr. Green surgically extracted the tooth and grafted the socket with Straumann Bone Ceramic alloplast covered with a 3i Ossix membrane. After approximately six months, a Neoss 4.5 X 11.0 -mm implant was placed with a healing abutment as a single stage procedure. Despite a prolonged healing time after grafting, residual particles were still encountered at the coronal part of the extraction site. Provisional healing abutments of various width and height dimensions are now available. The patient returned three months after placement reporting bad taste and mobility. The healing abutment had come loose as depicted in photos and radiographs. The implant was stable, immobile and non rotational upon tightening of the healing abutment. Documentation of definitive restoration will be posted in the near future.
